Economist Dawie Roodt says Eskom is going the same way as SAA and the Post Office, and the private sector will take over the power utility’s functions.

Dawie Roodt is making a huge assumption here, that the ANC is an honest party acting in the interests of the poor and people of the country, and that they will do the right thing in the event Eskom comes to an end.

The only legal problem I see here is that laws currently prevent private companies from taking over power generation and distribution from Eskom in this country. It will now depend on the ANC whether it believes in a scorched earth policy - if Eskom falls no one gets nothing.

I believe the ANC has already given up on Eskom as an enterprise, that's why we get the murmurings of another state controlled power producer from the likes of Gwede.

The reality is Eskom is unsustainable, cannot be rectified as corruption and negligence is endemic within the structure and in order to purge it of all it's ills would take the unions to consent to massive retrenchments and structural changes (that will Never happen)

So that being the case, the best, most reasonable course of action is to dismantle it, accelerate the distribution arms separation and structuring from scratch and privatise production with regulatory oversight from a new government entity. Anything else is just wasting MORE of the public's money
