ESKOM = ENRON

Perhaps he means that Eskom is milking us for money with the load-shedding. Strangely enough, they got their tariff increase and we haven't had load shedding in months now. :erm: And they haven't built a single power station they need so badly?

...or perhaps it's because the aluminum smelters have shut down?

I read through your wikipedia link and I really don't see a significant connection (other than the fact that both companies were involved in energy). Can you elaborate.

both start with the letter "E"
... I think that he is on to something !:rolleyes:

There is a slim, tinfoil hat possibility that some high-ups in Eskom realised that they needed a huge tariff increase. So they planned more maintenance than normal. Together with the coal shortages and supplier problems, load-shedding was 'needed'. Demand fell so drastically due to the economic downturn, freeing up more capacity, at the same time as more robust (but expensive) coal supplies were sourced. The successful tariff increases meant the books were stable for now.

Although I tend to live by the adage: "Don't attribute to evil what can be explained by BEE".
