A preliminary forensic report claims that over R2 billion has been stolen from state power firm Eskom through a network of ghost service suppliers and well-placed officials, according to City Press.

The money was allegedly funnelled via fraudulent transactions over the last three years, and involved numerous companies invoicing Eskom for work that was never carried out.

Ah, is this why you posted it?

Tshitango has accused De Ruyter and Eskom’s legal head of racism by stating they had used “the colour of their skin to undermine his authority”.

Sure, to play your little game: It's okay to pay entitled people R28 for a roll of single-ply toilet paper? This was mos the crown jewel of BEE and AA?

Next year's price-hike should cover this bill. No biggie.

Wait are you saying there is possibly corruption at Eskom? No it cant possibly be.

What in the actual fvck?

o_O
Do you know how big Eskom is? How much should they be spending according to you? Granted that is a lot of money but compared to what? Andre has asked for only a 4% reduction on expenditure.

Does your company give you lunch money?

Why are salaried employees getting food from Eskom?

And the fact that we have this little nugget...

De Ruyter added that the utility would have paid R238,000 for a wooden mop without his intervention.

...tells me that they are spending astronomically stupid amounts of money on foods and services, so whatever they are paying is too much.

So why does Eskom employees not bring their own food? They earn a nice salary. They can buy their own food.

Fire and arrest the people that is responsible for this, make a example, make it public for the next three months every day.

Shame the person that did it.

We need to be much more harsher with people that steal but its like its a hobby for most SOE's to just waste money that is not theirs then you see another thread that there is 5 - 6 million paying tax.

Does Eskom give their workers lunch money or is just assumptions? Could it not be S&T claims? My employer doesn't give me lunch money but we do claim for food when we go for training, when we are working away from home and other such instances.

So yes, sometimes salaried employees do get food at the employer's expense for practical reasons, without knowing the background to the food costs it's hard to make an informed comment, all we can agree on is that the costs should be managed and not go out of hand.
