Eskom increase inevitable, says Solidarity

Nersa are useless and toothless. Joburg is illegally implementing non-telescoping ibt tariffs on prepaid customers and nersa is just letting them do it, ripping off consumers by R9m a month.

Fuxsk I hate the anc, and I will be increasing said hate by 16% per annum until infinity

+1
The cost of electricity to the average ZA home consumer (R1.24-R1.44/kWh) is already higher than many countries.
Where it is higher (eg Germany), they have alternatives like natural gas, and also allow grid-tied systems so that they buy excess from the consumer, so the real cost in Germany is lower that ZA.

NERSA and ESKOM are a disgrace.

ESKOM is now operating like a private company with billions in profits every year.

and yet eskom still pay everyone top dollar and have lavish parties, now the consumer have to pay for their poor planning and bonuses?!

What we are actually paying for is the government's failure in 1998 to authorize an expansion program with the result that we are 10 years behind the curve on that front, and we need to catch up. The overly sweet deals for the smelters don't help. You and I subsidize big foreign business.

Electricity increases, severe petrol hikes, e-tolls (most likely) and increases in the price of food...yet salaries stay the same. At the rate things are going, the average middle-class family is soon going to have to trade their cars in for motorcycles and resort to using candles every night to save on electricity costs.

screw you Solidarity and the fat salaries and bonuses your people get at eskom. cheque.

Don't forget NHI (national health insurance) ...

Yea.. FU eskom.

Add extra food inflation from this new minimum wage thing....

Have you read the article? Solidarity is on YOUR side...

Yup. He's saying we are forced to accept what NERSA and EKSDOM impose on us because we have no alternatives. No competition, monopolistic industry, useless forecasting etc.

Johannesburg - One of the reasons Eskom is applying for an electricity hike is because the average annual salary of one of its employees is expected to be R820 000 in 2017 and 2018, according to a report on Saturday.

Beeld newspaper reported that Eskom's total salaries for about 45 600 employees at that time would be about R37bn.

These figures are one of the reasons Eskom gave to the National Energy Regulatory of SA (Nersa) as part of its request to increase electricity tariffs from 1 April 1, with 16% for the next five years.

Beeld reported that the information was part of Eskom's submissions handed in to Nersa.

In the documents Eskom claimed that in the current book year, the average salary per worker is R633 000 annually.

According to the documents, the reason for the high salaries was because new power stations needed more employees, and there was need to get more skilled workers and to keep them.

However, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA's Karl Cloete told Beeld that their members at Eskom do not get salaries like that.

"We want to see who gets paid so much that the average is so high. We do know that Eskom's top-managers have been getting big bonuses and increases in the past decade," Cloete said.

Investment Solutions economist Chris Hart told the newspaper that no company in the private sector could afford to pay salaries like that.

Eskom's spoksperson Hillary Joffe did not deny the proposed salary increase.
Nersa is expected to announce Eskom's tariff increase on 28 February

Because the majority of the anc support base do not pay for electricity, Eishkom will continue to get whatever increase they demand. On the other side of the scale it's the same, the anc do not pay for electricity - we pay it for them, or rather they pay for it with our money.

middle class nuts are being squeezed. apparently not being squeezed enough though. choooooo-choooo!!

This was predicted years ago when Eskom started letting experienced white people go to replace them with BEE's. We see it in every aspect of public service as well, from Zuma down to municipal worker level, incompetent people that cannot do their jobs properly but expecting to be paid top dollar in salaries.

Viva Africa viva!
