TBO, I think this is an indication of were are are heading as a country.
The middle class will subsidise all aspects of the rest of the country. Look at the tax payer base, Eskom etc.
This is a capitalistic socialist revolution. Guess who the targets are?
To pay for the excesses of ineptitude, the middle class will get milked for all they are worth. I fear that this model was planned some time ago, and our new guvermunt is starting to implement it.
Remember this is still a tripartite alliance, look at the other to parties besides the ANC you make this up. last year the Communist party registered as a political part in their own right.
I believe some compromise was reached to keep them all together. (tin foil hat off again)

They will nail you with rates/fuel levies/VAT/taxes etc.
I am just waiting to see what new scheme they will come up with to add to their arsenal in the next few months, that has an exclusion for X/Y.
For me that will be the tipping point to prove my fears.
Well, electricity, we have enough sun for solar power - which should cut down on governments supply.
Water - borehole.
Unfortunately, unless you want to make your own biofuel, you're stuck with the petrol price -and rates and taxes
But if they don't deliver, I'll happy join one of those witholding rates things.

Not sure they would appreciate that.
Would a rates protest/withheld even work? Would they bring in the army for that one? Expropriate properties to pay for outstanding balance/
Dunno, but I like your ideas re solar and bore holes. Time to move out of the city me thinks.
Many towns have created rate payers societies, who are withholding rates until the government delivers what people are paying for - the government is arguing its illegal, but many legal experts have said its legal, they are paying for something they arn't receiving.
My parents are part of one of these societies up in Louis Trichardt.
The sun also reaches cities
And I'm sure there are underground water sources, might be contaminated though

I guess I have service delivery (in a complex + scary rates), but that would make interesting news no doubt. Why have the MSM not picked this up?? (oops, SABC has no board)
We are getting ripped off from all directions, I think all consumers should have a place to air their grievances, concerns and recommendations to others.

It was on Carte Blanche a few weeks back.
It isn't just limited to garbage, etc - its roads, everything - just don't confuse your government rates and taxes, with your complex levies

Does this mean the electricity we export to our neighbours is also going to cost them 31% more ?
South Africa has had cheap electricity for years....The party is now officially over.
But what still amazes me is the fact that so many people in SA are receiving free electricity and hooking up illegal power into their homes, Eskom should be investing in fixing this problem instead of such a huge increase to the price. Its just another case actually of the average person paying for the poor's electricity. I suppose illegal connections will now escalate very rapidly, resulting in the prices being increased again and again.
