Eskom is doomed

Actually they know exactly what needs to be done in the case of Eskom. But it would mean going against their partners outside the party and the opposing faction in the ANC as well as staring down the unions.

Sounds like pretty standard capitalism.

Well Africa's history is complicated. There were definitely plenty of outside forces more than happy to keep it in conflict.

They certainly played a role. That sort of thing doesn't just go away. The ANC have of course squandered a big chunk of the last 25 years.

As I recall one of the first things they did was get South Africa out from under the debt with which the dumb whites previously in charge had saddled the country. Various organisations and government departments were overhauled to provide efficient, quality service.

And by your argument the country should never have been handed over to the Afrikaners. The British should have maintained control. I'd agree with that.

Strange for pigs to be worrying about pigs running the farm.

Actually blaming history achieves nothing.

We have **** now that needs to be sorted now.

In your case it seems freedom before education pig.

Is that apartheid fault too, maybe dem racists should have produced a more affirmative and self-confident black for after the transition? Always knew Verwoerd and them had a range of bantu education programs but throttled it to take away the dignity of the black people etcetera yadda yadda yadda I'm suddenly tired of this thread.

I laid blame where blame was due on both sides that much is clear in my post, but unfortunately it seems the truth is not enough for you, you'd prefer it if I twist it to say only the blacks are to blame because they're black.

Jabu Mabuza and every media outlet are wrong.

Eskom does not sell power at 90c or whatever figure they use.

Eskom has a tariff book. They have hundreds even thousands of tariffs for all sorts of different usecases.

They get the 90c by dividing their total revenue by their total electricity generated.
If they had half a brain, they would set their tariffs in such a way that they recovered all their costs, but they are too damn dumb for that.

Well, actually NERSA tells them they can't do that...

They have been much less innovative in their approach these last 3 years though, it used to be some tariffs were up some down... Peak kWh charges up, off peak not up as much... But last few years it's a blanket 13.9% across every part of the tariff book...
