Noted, still if Eskom were suddenly (for whatever reason) unable to supply power to large parts of the country, it would take at least a year for new alternative power production plants to be built.

Kusile and Medupi are just two examples of why Eskom should not be given (or loaned) money to build and manage (new/old) power plants.

Unfortunately it doesn't change the fact that South Africa is stuck with Eskom and would be a complete disaster if Eskom is not rescued.

Well, the joy of renewable is that you can set up a lot of small projects, rather than one giant one like Medupi. The projects I linked are also not supposed to have been done quickly, by that I mean mass scale with speed as a focus, you could probably do it a lot faster than those I linked, e.g. you create teams that each build one foundation, erect one turbine, etc. and then send them to the next as fast as possible, each being an expert in that one task, also making it cheaper to do multiple plants at the same time.

Imagine you needed 8 Khobar projects, each with 61 turbines, make 61 teams to create the foundation, then have them repeat it in different locals 8 times, so each can run in parallel, same for erecting. Would cut down the overall time substantially probably, but again, the industry isn't that big (though I do think it is that large actually, problem is how spread out the contracts are and it doesn't help that government messed up IPP contracts, we are top 10 in solar I think, imagine if the rest of IPP phases would have been allowed, how cheap electricity could have been done as all the skills and manufacturing is already set-up, instead a lot of those solar/wind shops would have been forced to close down by now).
