Eskom load-shedding until the weekend

Eskom has announced it will move to Stage 1 load-shedding from Wednesday until Saturday morning.

"Load-shedding will be reduced to Stage 1 from 05:00 on Wednesday and will continue until 05:00 on Saturday as the generation system is still severely constrained," the utility said.

Eskom stated it currently had 5,850MW of generation capacity out due to planned maintenance, while another 13,443MW of capacity was unavailable because of unplanned breakdowns and delays.

Correct, except for maybe any of the Stage 1 slots between 10PM-6am where we don't have access to Steenbras as that time is used to pump the water up (I think).

That's the schedule for Zone 3. I'm in Zone 11, which was not supposed to go off under Stage 1. I guess CoCT Stage 2 kicked in at 10pm, so that Steenbras can be recharged overnight.

Both Zones will also go off at 4am tomorrow. This is a 'side-effect' of the CoCT schedule rollover on 16th/17th of the month...

Yup, it seems CoCT will experience no more Stage 0 or at least until stated otherwise. These notices are now like last minute notices. All we know is that we will continue on Stage 1 until instructed otherwise.

I believe CoCT should be clear on this matter, either there is protection or there is no protection. It is the same erratic behaviour as shown by Eskom.

The Steenbras pump storage scheme may now be proven more critical than ever to sustain the national grid. Unscheduled maintenance now may have dire consequences.
