Eskom maintaining too much capacity caused load-shedding

I'm tired of experts. So here is my opinion of 2024 Q1
If you don't have solar or wind powering your stuff, you better get quick.
Water infrastructure is going to collapse and we will definitely be seeing water shedding very soon. So backup filtered capacity is definitely a must as well.
If you can get a borehole and start a garden to feed you the basics.

Eskom is dead, transmission is going to be a problem real soon as well.

Randwater is definitely next.

Transnet is already there.
 
How about they fix the 16GW first, then they can take the 9GW offline? 25GW (50%) offline is ridiculous. I'm sure the 9GW maintenance can be delayed until the 16GW is fixed. Then they will have 9GW buffer to play with. It shouldn't be this hard.

I've said this before, does the maintenance really do anything? Maybe they should stop doing maintenance as that's always the stage of load shedding we have and just do repairs until everything is replaced by alternative capacity.

Some maintenance helps, some doesn't. It's not always the same things breaking each time. Since they are so secretive about what exactly is broken, and what is being done, we can't really judge...

Its because many of you assume that planned maintenance and maintenance is the same thing. Its not. Planned maintenance takes (working) units offline, but no maintenance team is assign to it. This creates the need for LS on paper. Its just a scam.

That was my point on which I was attacked. Too much maintenance has negative returns. The same as your car. You replace the spark plugs and fuel filter every x km and do an oil change. You check the tyres and don't replace if not needed. You don't do an engine overhaul until it breaks because there's no benefit.
 
Translation: We planned to do X amount of maintenance, but our ailing generation failed at a higher rate than predicted.

This has been par for the course for years now. Nothing newsworthy about it.

Part of Eskom's problem is they don't have the finances, parts inventory and skilled planning to do proper maintenance. So they change the fuel filter when it breaks, but not an oil change at the same time, and vice versa. Poor analogy, but you get the drift...

and yet we can have 3000MW (6 units) drop off at the same time without warning.

That's what happens when the clowns are running the circus.
