Eskom messed up: Nersa

What happened to the billions we gave them this time last year to buy diesel? There was enough cash to last them until mid 2017 @ their R1billion diesel cost per month(and they don't spend that every month). Where has that diesel fund money gone?

Molefe further complained that the diesel-powered OCGTs had been used in the past to avoid or limit load shedding on the understanding that Eskom could recover these costs within the RCA process.

More like a ridiculous assumption... How could he just assume that they'd get the money back, if it is their fault that their is too little generation capacity in the first place :wtf:

Let's not forget the wholesale price of diesel is around R5 a litre now, and was over R10 then, due to the oil price. So they don't need to spend as much on diesel. That is assuming the supply contracts aren't gilded with pork fat and gold flakes.

8 000-plus responses collected (Outa) website + the 50 000-plus responses to the online Avaaz
... He further indicated that these had each been counted as only one of the total of 82 written submissions received.
Is that fair? Counting 58,000 responses as one or two?
Why don't they count them all 58,080 != 82

Of its R8-billion diesel claim, Eskom was thus only allowed the recovery of R1.25-billion, this being the cost of coal to generate electricity equivalent to that generated by the unbudgeted diesel used
So they using diesel.
If this was allowed, Eskom would have no incentive to save money - just use the most expensive fuel - customer will pay.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN 2007/2008:
Eskom Holdings Limited (Eskom) is investigating the conversion of the nine Open Cycle
Gas Turbine (OCGT) units at the existing Ankerlig Power Station (located in Atlantis Industria) plant to a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT)
Why this not done yet?
Why not using gas - which is cheaper than coal (currently using Diesel).

Odd ...

Eskom can use a non renewable like diesel, to replace a non renewable like coal .... but gave me shidt when I offered to recycle plastic to produce HFO .... citing, HFO is a non renewable.
Of course - WE have to pay for their standards standards <----------------------------------- double standards

Eskom messed up: Nersa

Nersa rejected Eskom’s claim for a higher tariff increase to compensate the utility for unbudgeted costs of diesel.

Erm.
The diesel consumption cannot be budgeted for all that much. The OCG turbines aren't made to be used that much, and is there for emergency use. You can only put so much aside for "emergency use".

why nersa approved tariff hike in first place. they play together this game with us
