So we all know that NERSA and Eskom are going around the country holding hearings for input to the proposed 3 x 35% Electricity Tariff increases.
This is an absolute shame as there has been great alternatives presented but it is falling on deaf ears, the government wants these increases to take place. They want to profit at the expense of the entire country, it’s all about the money!
1. If they were serious about these hearings and hearing what the people have to say, why has the new builds been approved? We all know that Medupi for 1 is “on time” whilst there is a year delay at Kusile. The point is that building is going ahead, Eskom does not have the money, YET, to service the debts incurred in these constructions. They assumed, or rather they know, that the 3 x 35% increases are coming!
2. The ANC is heavily invested in the project (read here) through their investment vehicles to the tune of Billions of Rands. Do you think it is coincidental that the firm in which ANC has a 25% stake has secured the contracts to build these power stations? If Eskom does not get the 3 x 35% increases it severly jeopardises Eskom’s ability to pay for this, and this will in turn lose the ANC money!!!
