Maybe they need to give Simcity to Eskom and goverment so they can have a bit of practice in regards to running a country... though they will have to reduce the difficulty to 'retard' level.

It really would be a good idea, it would be easy enough to program mods to make it more realistic in the SA perspective.

It would be really great to see each major power station operated privately under best practice business rules - then costs might be related to real world realities

Yes, government sticks to providing the governance framework and monitoring and let the private sector do what they are good at - efficiency. This whole situation of being the player and ref is ridiculous.

If they are going to have to borrow the money anyway then why the soggy f|_|ck did they have to go and raise the cost of electricity by like 300-400% since about 5 years back? Wasn't the point to raise money for exactly these two power stations? And I would love to hear what they could build in say the US for $42bil. Probably like 5 massive nuclear power plants.

I've been doing some reading up around the net and the consensus is that a 1000 MW coal fired power plant costs between US$1.5 - 2.0 billion. Even at $4 billion per 1000 MW. the price would be $19.2 billion. So were did the rest go?

Same thing they pull off EVERY SINGLE TIME and people never fail to fall for it:

1. Announce bat****-insanely high costs such as 97c/kWh and cause a big public outcry.
2. After a few months/years have passed and people have gotten out the Vaseline, announce that due to your glorius efforts the costs have been massively cut (to only 80c/kWh)
3. Seem like a big hero to idiots with short memories
4. ???
5. Profit!!!

How this is even legal is beyond me.

It is legal, because the laws that would prevent this kind of thing keep getting blocked --- it was in the news last week.
