Eskom replacing your light bulbs

I just heard that there are Eskom employees going around to homes offering to replace your light bulbs with those energy efficient ones for free

Anybody heard of this?

Yes it was mentioned in a local KZN newspaper.

Well they just arrived here. Replaced our spare light bulbs with these energy efficient ones. Considering we only had three normal ones and the rest were energy efficient anyway it wasn't such a big deal.

They did this in Cape Town last year, we had to take our old light bulbs to the Mall (because we not home in the week)and they will exchange for energy savers plus a few extra ones.

The energy saver lights are not a good quality that they put in!!! The light irratate your eyes... dont put that lights in if you working on a comp, reading etc in a specific room!!!!!!

I think you get a choice of wattage for the lights. They can be a but dim.

Eskom has two kinds and get them to give you the 14w bulbs, it's brighter,Eskom didn't give me the eskom brand but a good and well known brand.

Yeah we didn't allow them in. Funny the guy mentioned how he couldn't understand why people were so unwilling to let him in .

Eskom buys the cheap WHITE light bulbs, the light is ghastly. Its great for outdoor use but for indoors its disgusting. For a few bucks extra you can buy the YELLOW enegry savers which give light of similar temperature to incandescent bulbs.

We've replaced all of our incandescent bulbs with those little beauties. I think Philips markets them as the "Warm" ones. After a couple of months they'd even paid for themselves.

The white ones are Cold White, you can assume it is Cold White if the box/container doesnt say anything.

Warm White look like Normal Lightsbulbs and I prefer them a lot...

One can get Cold Whites that switch themselves on and off during day and night. Work great for external lights, dont have to worry about forgetting to switch the lights off in the morning.
