Eskom has reported a sizeable after-tax profit for the first half of its 2026 financial year, as the utility benefited from tariff increases.

Well they did get more than R60bn in bailouts if I'm not mistaken.

Next year the gov plans to take over, i.e. burden the tax payer with, R70bn of Eskom's debt directly. So I expect next year there will be a profit again.

Electricity is much, much more expensive in SA than people can see on their bills/prepaid. Many times more.

Eksdom is so happy about their profits that they even want to extend their happiness and give out 200 free basic electricity to the leeches!
