So I get this email:

Dear Eskom Customer,

Eskom would like to formally inform you as a valued customer about the rollout of the Smart Prepayment Split Metering Programme in Midrand and Sandton during 2015/16.

We have attached for your information a letter that contains details about the programme.

For any enquiries or details about the initiative please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Solly Matebula on his Landline number: 011 601 8481 or Mobile number: 082 579 4334.

Kind regards
Eskom

The attachment is a pdf with a lot of enthusiastic padding.
But basically they will install a central prepaid metering system on your street, with each household having an interface unit in the home.
You load tokens etc.
It's basically prepaid electricity.
It says they still need to do consultations and campaigning.

Anyone else get this?

Yeah got that as well sounds like they wanting to convert everyone to prepaid what a load of crap

Well we need to take the behaviour of the people of Soweto when this happened there in to consideration when they try come do it here. That seems to work...

I got the same email.

If they go this route, They need return the deposit I had to put down 15 years ago.

Wish they would do it here in pe to some folks i know, parents friend jippo'd his elec meter to run slower, not that he is poor

15 years ago R1500 was a lot of money :D

"parents friend jippo'd his elec meter to run slower" - ultimately if you're stealing, you're stealing... and if your stealing from your municipality, then thats not helping anyone.

What relevance does this statement have in relation to my statement about refunding my deposit if Eskom convert their customers from post pay to pre pay?

I dunno thehuman was talking about jippo-ing the meter -- I guess it's more he wishes more places had smart-meters to make that harder... not sure though!
