Eskom cracks the whip

Eskom has threatened to use its own teams to enforce rotational power cuts in municipalities that do not comply with its instructions to implement the necessary amount of load-shedding.

The warning shot came during an update on the state of the utility's generation system on Wednesday afternoon.
 
“45% of our key industrial customers that are in our curtailment programme did not fully meet the requirements. It was with dismay [we discovered] that some of them did not meet their requirements at all,” Bala said.

Eskom has a list of the guilty customers but said it was not in a position to name them.

“We are monitoring the situation, and we are quite comfortable with the interactions that we’ve had with them that this situation has been amicably resolved,” Bala stated.

But now they've been warned, you can just turn off their power the next time right ?
 
Sounds like a good opportunity for municipalities to save some money.

on city of cape town's twitter, they're still enforcing stage 2 during day instead of stage 3 like the rest of us

Yeah but they are using their dam. JHB could beat stage 2,but Eskom said no

In our area there are all sorts of stories going a round why we were not subjected to LS for months.

1. There is someone important living in our area.
2. We are on the same feed as the Wilgers Hospital and the two vaccinations sites in our area.
3. Nothing more than a very welcome fault condition.
4. Tshwane is managing LS properly and "never" need to call on us to help.

Most of us favoured number 3 given the poor maintenance going on.

The important point was we hoped no one was stupid enough to go and ask ---- it was great not being exposed to LS! :ROFL:

Wilgeheuwel hospital is just down the road, still shed.

I know the East rand wasn't, until recently.
 
Typical, we did a kak job but if everyone else don't jump we're going to do something bad to you.

Similar to De Ruyter getting threats of violence. Africa needs to grow the **** up.

Madness. If I have to suffer everyone has to. Colleagues are in CoCT, but I imagine it's happening everywhere.

Would love it if politicians and Eskom execs were barred from being able to install alternatives to keep their lights on during loadshedding. Let them feel the pain they're inflicting on the people of this country.

The reality is that we have too little supply. We all know it's Eskom's fault, but that doesn't change our reality. Municipalities should not get to play russian roulette with the national grid. We need to shed, we shed. All of us.

How can anyone expect Eskom to maintain a stable grid if it can't rely on the amounts it needs shed to actually happen on schedule.

Eskom to serve legal notices to municipalities which don’t comply with load shedding

ESKOM has reported several big metros and other key industrial sites who are allegedly undermining the power utility’s instruction to implement load shedding to Nersa for action to be taken against them.

While he failed to disclose the defaulters, Bala did confirm that they would meet with the City of Cape Town regarding Steynsrus Power Plant’s ability to assist in the slight ease of the effects of load shedding in the area.

The meeting came after DA leader John Steenhuisen, during his municipal elections campaign, was adamant that the City of Cape Town was able to lower stages of load shedding announced by Eskom.

In his campaign, Steenhuisen, “If Eskom introduces Stage 2 load shedding, the City of Cape Town announces stage 1 of load shedding.”

But according to Bala: “Eskom has not seen the benefits of that”.
