Johannesburg - Eskom cannot guarantee that there will be no outages during the winter months as energy usage nears that of pre-recession levels experienced in 2007, The Times reported on Tuesday.

"We have resolved to avoid (outages), but that resolve will be tested," the power supplier's spokeswoman Hilary Joffe was quoted saying.

"I am not going to give you a guarantee that (load shedding) is going to happen, but I'm also not going to give you a guarantee that it's not.

"That's the best we can give you. It's not going to be easy," she said.

Eskom on Friday announced its goal of keeping power available this winter and avoiding rotational load shedding.

"But the system is going to be very tight for the next two years," Joffe said.

After studying weather and power usage trends, Eskom reported that 14 critical periods were expected before the end of winter

Knowing the "14 critical periods" would be great..
When the excuses start so soon, you kow how things will go with Eskom.

Well this wouldn't be happening if they hadn't destroyed their one generator through fault testing! Dumb@sses need to put better controls in place for testing.

It better fscking well be easy, with the increase that's been forced upon us

Heard on the radio that they might be stopping the solar subsidy.

I would love to know where all our increase are going

To the massive salaries and bonuses for the employees. Other companies pay their expenses first, then gives a bonus if they can afford it, and depending on performance. Not so with Eksdom. And it's not just the top brass either. All the employees are pretty much guaranteed 2 bonuses a year, on top of their already huge salaries. I know because my brother works for them...

If you've ever heard those. "49 meelyon" ads, that about the CEO's bonus covered.

honestly, i hope they have made a better switching system than the current one.

The current one is potentally deangerous, the circuit breakers are not designed for continual use.

One or 2 ues a year maximum vs a few times a week, di te math
