This tiny (4cm x 3cm) and cheap (100 bucks) device seems perfect for DIY expirements around the smart home.

Anyone have any experience with it?

You can get them locally from e.g. robotics.org.za too. You need a separate 3.3v FTDI or similar USB uart to program it. An external antenna is virtually a must-have. The Arduino sample sketch did not work on mine. It works fine with esphome/Home Assistant. Low frame rate, no IR mode, only 1 client at a time. A lot of fun to play with at the price, and you have a few i/o's to use for additional sensors or controls. Best to use a separate 5v PSU to program it, not the 5v or 3.3v from the USB programmer. I/O is not 5v tolerant!

Have two of these working with esphome in home assistant. Well worth it.
