Esquire the user has a link under in his sig explaining everything. :)

Thank you, registered hopefully it wil go through, also I found out that the motherboard only can take p to ddr2 533 :(

What mobo do you have? All you have to look at is the module size it can support. Some can take only 1Gb modules

It's hard to say it will 100% definitely support it but let me put it this way:

DDR2 memory is fully backward compatible, the RAM chip will have SPD timings for 533/667/800. SPD is serial presence detect, basically a memory controller on a CPU or motherboard will use this to determine the timings for a given frequency.

So the memory fully supports running at any of those speeds and if the motherboard fully supports the DDR2 specifications (which I haven't seen a motherboard not do) it will be able to use the memory.

Best idea would be to update the BIOS first.

Thanks Gnome, this is a Mustek brannded version of the ECS board, also I looked in the BIOS change logs and there is no meantion about ram changes :( so will first put them in to see if they work and if they don't will upgrade the BIOS, hopefully it won't brick the board, then if it doesn't work still it will only be R120 down the drain :D

If the ram dont work i will buy it from you .i am in Durbs

I've bought a few Asus board that were branded before and it was a bit of a mission but I was able to flash it back to standard BIOS. I had to download an Award BIOS flasher that had the ability to ignore which BIOS it has on it (eg. /o to override type flash tool).

It is possible to get back to standard but point is you might not need to...

The deal with the guy from carbonite didn't go through, so I have decided to go to Esquire to get the ram, R230 for 2GB Kingston ddr2 800, quite expensive but I guess I won't get it any cheaper elsewhere.

These days the dealers are more expensive then some retail shops. Especially notebooks.!
