Hey

On my last (and very tedious) request to Telkom to check on the status of my ADSL activation, the call centre person said they were waiting for port allocation. Does anybody know how long this process will take?

besides the obvious imminent, it could take anything from 1 day to 6 months. There is no real standard here. My advise to is to get on the phone to them daily, even go down to your local Telkom shop if you can. There was a Durban number I phone (can't remember what it was) and got it authorised and allocated with that call. This was more than 2 years ago, don't know if it still works that way.

You might have a problem if suddenly they realise that there are no ports available, and they would first have to install some more before you can get one allocated. This happens quite often. There is no straight answer here, just keep at them until you get answers you want.

But hey, who knows you might get lucky and the techie phones you at work tommorow telling you that he is standing at your front door, wanting to install your ADSL line. This does happen occassionaly.

Thanks - as I understand it the line is already installed, all the techie needs to do is make the connection at the local Telkom box. I opted for the self-install option...

AAAhh i'm really very cross with telkom at the moment, i applied for my adsl the 27th of Jan, got a call last week friday saying if I self install i'll have everything by wednesday so yesterday came I waited and waited I called them spoke to the lady who told me i'd have everything by wed and her response was oh no I must wait 15 days for my modem to arrive from pick n pay in jhb! PICK AND PAY in JHB? what on earth have they gotta do with my adsl? Apparently my modem is getting sent from pick n pay with some courier company that'll only get it to me in 15 days. I asked if I could use my own courier to which she said no. She also denied telling me I'll have everything by wed..arrggh.. now I sit with mr Beeps 2 gig special and don't know if I'll have adsl by the end of feb ;/

Buy your own modem and lose the Telkom nonsense!! Stay away from the beast...

ugh

i called telkom direct and just need to bring in my id and collect the modem dunno where this lady got her story from

Use www.hellopeter.co.za

Postings on hellopeter are read by someone from Telkom and actions follows.

I was becoming increasingly frustrated while trying to establish progress on my ADSL activation. After posting on this website, I was contacted by relevant Telkom personnel who gave me the results I sought.

Try it - it works.

Did not work for me. Yes I was contacted by Telkom, but no result. All they told me is the same thing all the other Telkom plebs told me: "A technician will contact you, we have no further information."

Like that helps...

Can take forever. I'm still waiting from 1 November 2006. Apparently to order the boards takes from 1 to 3 weeks, if they order them I suppose, and the who knows how long to install. Apparently they are now trying to fit me into a nearby exchange, but I have no idea how successful that will be. Otherwise my "project" has a completion date for the end of April 2007. (Moved from end of January 2007).

Haven't tried Hellopeter, or any route like that. The guy I'm dealing with at the Hillcrest branch is really good, and keeps me updated and phones back when he says he will, and really seems to be giving the Telkom monster a few kicks for me to try get it organised.

Q Will take forever!!!

Until you take charge of your life!

Post on hellopeter - if nothing else, it will make you feel you are doing something self for yourself.

As individuals, because we are being treated as the congenital village idiots (I challenge Telkom readers of this forum to respond), Telkom will not respond to get service going to international or any standards.

We will continue to be the unwilling cash-cows, prostituted to feed the profits of the government shareholders and the members of the Elephant Consortium, and other priveleged individuals who have benefited from the various Black Economic Enrichment Schemes which have been floated recently.

Does the Government believe we are as stupid and as gullible as its electoral masses are?
