Please assist as my ET gate motor show “Comms.Error” and no remote wants to work? Can someone advice plse

Only when we do the BT in the motor it’s working properly, but when we want to setup the remotes again it gave Comms error

This must be a Drive 500, not an ET500 which is an earlier model

There are 4 things to do

Do a general reset (see page 29 of the installer book)
This is under the Advanced programming section, press the > 8 times
Power it down and then back up
Then re-learn the limits
Go to the Quick Learn for remotes and assign them

If it still shows the same error, take it to your nearest ET repair workshop, that is ET themselves, not a sub-dealer

Just unplug the board, not the whole motor
When you take off the board holder, check there are no ants or geckos inside

Not a common fault. Often caused by mains flashovers, although I have only seen this a few times on the Drive 600 which has its own transformer

Plus the battery sometimes fails prematurely

Nothing to do with the battery or 16V supply

In a domestic installation, the battery can easily last 5 years. Its the continual load-shedding that ruins the battery, allowing insufficient time for the battery to recover

I've replaced over 100 batteries in gate motors, alarms and UPS this year. I managed to recover about 25 of these by putting them on a battery charger that switches on for 55 seconds and off for 5 seconds, allowing the processor to measure the state of the battery

It is not always the depth of discharge that allows a battery to recover. Batteries measuring 5 volts have been recovered. Its behaviour of the battery when re-connected to a 13.65V 1 amp charger that is important. It if jumps to 9 or 10 volts and begins creeping up, it will recover. If it jumps to 13.65V and I can see the charger is not delivering any current (amps) then it is a lost cause

Failed batteries are taken to SA Metal in Wetton. In a 7 a/h battery there is R25-R30 salvage. The lids are cut off, the electrolyte disposed of and the battery is crushed for recycling
