Ethernet Adapter

I am using a PLANET broadband (ADSL/Cable)router with 8-port switch and 1-port WAN with ADSL, will the MyWireless modem work through this router using the Ethernet patch cable?

Thanks in advance [:D]

That was my question with the netgear modem, but everyone just jumped on their little horses when someone mentioned linux owns MS

Won't work as the WAN side requires ADSL, not Ethernet.

There are however Ethernet WAN/Ethernet LAN NAT/Firewalls etc units available. Seen them but don't know them. Maybe something like this from D-Link?

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

kaspaas, I think u misunderstood me. It is not an ADSL modem with 10/100 lan ports.
It is what they call a BROADBAND router, and Planet specify it for use with xDSL/Cable.

Now, I am not clued up on how cable modems work, but the router does support PPPoE, is that not good enough for the MyWireless modem?

The hardware is actually a router/swich/print switch/NAT firewall c/w SPI, etc.

Why would it not work?

mmm I see no reason why it should not work as it supports PPPoE.
The only thing I see is that every PC attached to the Network behind the router will need the Modem software to access it.
It would seem its a hardware way of doing what I'm gonna do in that I have a PC in its place with 2 NICs - one for the modem and one for the network.
The PC runs Winroute with the modem access software and is the gateway to the network.

Hahaha lol at the "I didn't say you should use Linux but OMF IF YOU USE MS **** OMF YOUR an IDIOT OMF DIE" :P .... anyway I am not trying to get into a flame war, just saying maybe some people should just take it easy on the subject :). I have no quams with iehter OS, I was just mentioning that some people are just not going to use Linux firewall/gateway using NAT so it's not the devil's work to try sugest another option to those people. I am not saying it is better, just an option so getting all bent up over it isn't going to solve things or make you feel any better :P

Just about every Fortune 500 company thrives just fine on that "MS junk", the top one being Microsoft itself.

Mithrandi, for some reason you're very jaded... did MS kick your puppy when you were a kid?

If what you are saying about the IP's is true, that the IP will only change when the modem looses signal, or gets powered off for whatever reason, then why not just assign static IP's?
Surely Sentech have thought out that maybe most users would leave their modems powered, even if they shut down their pc's, so surely they have taken the steps to ensure that they have sufficient IP blocks to cover their user base?

I think they dont want people to run their own hosting servers and maybe resell the service?

But in any case, who would want to host a server on a 128kb upstream anyway? So yea... why can't we have static IP's?! biatch!
