Hey guys,
Two nights ago my one hard drive failed on me and I bought a new one yesterday. Loaded Win 7 Enterprise edition last night and everything is working fine. This morning, I loaded Route Sentry and as soon as my local account was connected, I lost international connectivity. I then discovered that I incorrectly selected the wrong NIC for international access as my ethernet cable was plugged into the the other port (I have 2 NICs). Then I decided that I want to use the Realtek NIC (used it in Win Vista x64 without any problems), but as soon as I plug into the port, the lights don't come on. There is only one tiny orange LED indicator burning permanently but the red one doesn't come on to indicate data flow.
Checking in Win 7, it picks up both NICs, plugging it into the Realtek one, it tries to obtain an IP and then fails (the diagnostic checker said it can't obtain an IP) However, plugging it into the Marvell (other NIC port) it picks it up no problem and everything is 100%. My PC does obtain its IP from the router, but using the Realtek one it doesn't want to work. Do you guys think the Realtek port is buggered or could it be software related? If it was completely broken or non functioning, then I think it shouldn't have even listed it in My Network and Sharing Center whatsoever. I did notice there was updates available (through Win Update) for both NICs and installed them, but had to go to work, so I'll only be able to test it once I get home again.
I can't understand, the Realtek one worked perfectly on Vista x64, but now in Win 7 it doesn't. Its not the end of the world to use the Marvell NIC, but it just baffles me as why the Realtek doesn't want to work in Win 7. I'll also test and see if I manually assign it an IP if works then, but I have a suspicion that port isn't lekker anymore, which I hope it isn't the case.
Anyone experienced anything similar before ? My mobo is a Asus P5K Deluxe Wi-fi Edition.
