Anyone used them before?
This will be my first international trip, would like to know if anyone have some experience with the airlines.

They're fine, been around for a long time and have a good record. They've also got a few new 787's and I think A340's too. I found them better than SAA.

Where you flying too and what was the price difference against the more established/well known airlines.

have used them.. was fine. if you are stopping over in Ethiopia, there is absolutely nothing there. you basically sit and wait.

My partner used them a couple of weeks back to Europe/return. No problems, smooth flight.

Personally I've had 1 nasty experience with them where my connecting flight from Addis was canceled, and I had a 48h layover in Ethiopia. (They did book me into a hotel).

With that said, I quite liked flying with them, because the specific flight I always took was quite empty.

Check out their ranking on the top100 airlines to make an informed decision.

Brand new a350's !

I have flown in their 787 and a350. Superb aircraft (very new fleet) and service was good. The airport in Addis is a freaking dog show though. Not enough seats, HOT, very poor WiFi with a lot of things blocked like FB and Whatsapp (that is if you can connect!), toilets are like South African public toilets - dirty and some don't flush, doors don't close etc.

If the connection is less than 2 or 3 hours it should be fine. Pee on the plane before you land. If its longer than 3 hours I would spend the extra 5k for a direct flight.

Note thatt they are currently building a new airport. I think its ready this December.

Crappy layovers aside it should be fine
Exactly. Just hope it doesn't rain when you're in Addis airport - it leaks badly.

The airline itself is great. Modern fleet. Good pilots. Presume maint is properly done. Last flew them to Europe in May last year. Signed up for ShebaMiles.

Very good airline. Used them in December when I took the lady friend to Europe. On the flight back I got upgraded to business and they upgraded her too, no hassle.

Addis is a bit of a s**tshow, but it's not the worst experience in the world. Don't bother eating at the restaurant. Most expensive plate of chips ever. (Wifi password is Thankyou)

Did you know they serve UN Food Ration packs as their onboard meals...

:D :D

Jokes aside. They're a very decent airline. Wayyyyy better then our SAA but not as classy as your Etihad/Qatar types. Either way, they're doing great, winning awards and have competitive prices. Cant we get their CEO to take over SAA

Their airline food looked pretty crap but i'm not a fan of any airline food so thats me being fussy.

I flew them last year from JHB to Mumbai.
JHB to Addis - great modern aircraft with all the usual bells and whistles. Addis stop was 30mins so we just landed, got escorted through the (very tired looking) terminal, boarded new flight.

Addis to Mumbai on the other hand - wow. was a smaller and older aircraft. Remember those old flights which had giant CRT screens showing the movie of the evening, mounted at the top of each aisle and from the ceiling. So old our seat even had an ashtray.

Although i think this particular aircraft was reserved for the addis-mumbai leg as the passengers were very rural :D Not too long a flight at about 4hours so wasnt too fussed.

Airline is decent. Prices are very competitive. Addis airport is terrible. One of the worst airports in Africa in my opinion - and I've been all over Africa incl. places like Chad, DRC, etc.

Well at least in Addis you don't need to bribe your way out the country as you do in the other countries mentioned...

Considering flying with these guys next time round. Not massively keen on the airport though. Decisions decisions....
