Hello,

I'm very pleased with my iBurst connection, it's so zippy and quick and responsive compared to Sentech!

The only thing that is lacking is that my torrents are REALLY slow. I understand that torrents are shaped, but I'd like to at least get say 8 to 10KB/s on them... is this normal to be getting such very low speeds? I've tried a variety of torrents but they all end up going around 500B/s.

A while back someone mentioned a proxy - is it still around? How does it work and how do I set it up?

Thank you!

The most I've gotten outta my iburst with torrents is 3KB/s

so good luck trying to get any higher (I'm on the 3gig package)

Well Torrents are so irritating to set up because the seeding etc makes a differance too, so always test it out on very well seeded torrents and upload as much as you need to.

But after that, the point is that that torrents do suck on Iburst, rather dont use them. Or get a proxy, no point sukkeling trying to get the torrent to "max out" at 3kb. Use some http downloads or P2P.. theres no wasting your cap with upload involved.

But, yes a free proxy still exists, there was a post about it in the ADSL forum section a while ago, it was somethign like "5GB accounts free" if you want to search for it. It is provided by Mr.Beep and Openweb, so you should be able to get there somehow from www.openweb.co.za

I've been capped since the 10th of September and so far I've used about 17Gig's of bandwidth just from torrents @ 6KB/s avg.

I've got a VPN account and all my P2P downloads are fullspeed.

LimeWire, ShareZaa & Torrents

When uncapped, the R60 service from OpenWeb will give you full speed on your torrents.

But there is a simliar free service, the only differane is that the free service has a limit of 5 GB, which is not a problem ,so if you can find that rather sign up for the free one, it works perfectly too.

Does the free service not last for half the month? Haven't used either in some time.

Im not shure anymore.. at first it was the whole month, when I used it. Then a while ago it changed to only the last half of the month, but there was no mention of that in the last post about getting 5 GB, so im not shure.

It might stil lstand, but the last half of the month isnt too bad to wait for seeing as you can burn your cap very quickly with this. But it might not suit you, in which case R60 might be worth it for you.

I even used ttorrent.net for 1 month. This might be slimothy related. It's something like 12 euro. Limits on the ttorrent side are dependant on how much storage you buy from them.

I bought a month and had to fight to get that access. I don't trust them much I have to say. But I am willing to lose some part or all of 12 euro if it works.

Don't know if the above makes sense.

Enabling protocol encryption should help.

In the past I've gotten full speeds on torrents by doing this, I'm getting about 8 KBps down at the moment, definetely not great.

Switching back to my ADSL account now ;)

How do I enable encryption? Does it need to be supported from the tracker side?

I am using Azureus on OS X 10.4.8

Edit: Okay I figured it out, and enabled it. There has been an improvement in the speed but still pretty slow. It occasionally goes up to 20KB/s or so, then drops back down so I think it may be the torrent.

I would prefer to spend the money on a Rapidshare premium account.

I have fast p2p and torrents being on the G9 package, but I still find Rapidshare the best and fastest source for content - and, of course, no upshare.

Well I use uTorrent, in that you go to preferences, BitTorrent, and turn Outgoing Protocol Encryption to Forced.

Don't think the tracker needs to be able to support it, should be something like that with Azureus as well.

This is exactly what I think...

And if you dont want to pay, well then maby Rapidshare isnt the best as you cannot resume downloads, if your connection/PC dies or the download just stops like it sometimes does then you have to start from scratch. I have had this on a few > 100mb downloads at around 98%, very irritating.

Megaupload and turboupload allow you to resume the download even after a few days. However, most of the free uploading services are limited to single threads, which is ually still okay, I have got 100kb on a Rapidshare single thread before. ANd of course these services still work perfectly after cap, you get a full 8(and up)Kb speed.

When I was using windows I used uTorrent (encrypted) and got in the region of about 40KB/s on torrents.

Donovan, look at BitRocket for MAC OS X ... apparently very good

Hmmm I'm using Bitcomet and manage to get a stable 38kb/s download on most of my torrents but then again I'm talking torrents with 2000+ seeders here so maybe it's just luck of the draw?

I've enabled encryption on the transport protocol and it works fine now.

I'm getting 29.1KB/s on two torrents running at a pathetic ratio of 1:24. that's good enough for me. i hate the fact that the uploads is running at a constant 6KB/s. oh well, i don't seem to get it lower than that, so i'll have to accept it.

I'm connected to a torrent with 11 000+ seeders, was getting around 30KB/s prior to hitting the cap.

Now we'll have to see ;) I think it'll drop to at most 5KB/s, which is fine. Nice still being able to browse, on MyWi this would be killing the connection.
