Since a couple of weeks I can't update my Blogger (powered by Google), often can't even open it, often need to re-register. Can't work in Google spreadsheets and Google calendars. Requests time out or show just blank pages.

I'm on Telkom's "fastest" and get my bandwith from Afrihost. So who's to blame?

Afrihost seem to have their own IP address for google, make sure you're using their DNS server and not telkom's or a local host file.

I'm using Google's DNS.
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

That will give you google.com on 74.125.31.*, which has a BAD latency on Afrihost's network. Afrihost's own DNS entries for google services are on the 209.85.128.0/17 network which seems to have a much better route. Take it up with Afrihost or use their DNS entries.

Look at Pada article on howto to use local Google Servers ie
OR even easier
Use the local IS DNS servers 168.210.2.2 & 196.14.239.2
then you will use the Google Cache servers at IS on the local
196.23.168.x IP address range

Thanks for all your help, guys.
Ouch, this all sounds so technical. Switching to a cached server? Does that mean my changes to the internationally read blog and internationally worked on spreadsheets will only be visible for me here in sunny SA?
Oh, and btw, today everything works kinda ok again. That's what I hate most about SA internet: all those non-recreatable bugs. Today it works, tomorrow it doesn't, day after that nobody knows.

Login into your router and check the DNS settings assigned to you by Afrihost (IS network)
It should be the IS DNS servers
Do you use DHCP on your Desktop - if on windows
Click Start -> Run <ENTER>
ipconfig/all (Check to see what DNS server you are assigned, if not IS DNS change
to local IS DNS server 168.210.2.2 and 196.14.239.2

tracert to google.co.za (which Google server do you access)

Oh, now youtube is acting up as well :( Speedtests are still ok-ish so I guess the connection is quite able. Nevertheless I only get to do half of the stuff I usually do.
Ok, will check that DNS stuff ... oh noes, what is DHCP? Must I know this stuff as a paying customer?
