Hello all :D

So gonna try keep this nice and short for you guys :)
My mothers old machine needed upgrades and the 1x80m fan was the only thing cooling her machine. So I thought been such a sweet son I am, upgrade her machine and make it faster for her.
So I bought the Coolermaster Gladiator 600 case ( something the looked nice and appealed to her - it wasn't a preference and a must have ).
So I took my old 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition motherboard so she would be able to have 4 gigs of DDR2 667 ram. Placed my old C2D 2.2GHz CPU in there, her old Antec 380 Watt PSU and ensured all the front panel connectors were connected to the mobo correctly. Connected all the 4 x 140m fans + 1 x 120m fan and tried to start the machine up but nothing happened .
After placing her old Gigabyte Micro-ATX mobo in the power cable could not reach the connector on the mobo :/ so scraped that idea.
Went into Zaps yesterday and picked up a Corsair CX500 Builder Edition, thinking there was enough power to power my 975X mobo + a new graphics card EVGA GT 220 (image of product) as the old GT 8600 fan has stopped working and heats up after 2 minutes where you just can't touch the card anymore (got burn marks on my finger tips cause of it).
So put the 975X in the case, the new Corsair PSU and the GT 220.
The machine started up WOOT and saw it picked up the 4 gigs of ram / the HDD / DVD and everything was fine - after trying to start-up from CD/DVD-rom / HDD I'm ment to see the Windows 7 loading screen but it's blank....
So I left it alone cause I could hear the HDD working, then I heard the windows load up "music" but still black screen ( the monitor is receiving power and I'm not getting that "no singal input"). So let it run for abit thinking it needed to install or something (but still confused cause I thought a GFX was a basic plug n play thing and once in windows you install the hardware). Nothing happend after 15 minutes, so I restarted the machine and got a blue screen of death :( at the point where it was meant to log into windows
So decided to place the old GT 8600 in and see what happens, well it went into windows fine and just gave my an issue that windows wasn't shut down correctly.
So phoned Zaps (was gonna state its a faulty card and they asked me to put into my i7 setup and see if it works). So took out my GTX 260 and placed the 220 in there and it went into windows and installed the 220 fine and no issues ...
So couldn't state it was a faulty card, so um ye ....
I cant use the old GT 8600 as the fan is no longer working on it and is heating up seriously and the 220 is not faulty so i can't really return it...

The setup in the the machine:
975X Platinum PowerUp Edition
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2
Corsair CX500 Builder Edition PSU
4 gigs ram DDR2 667 ( not the same make - 1 x 2 gig in dual slots + 1 x 2 another make in the other dual slots)
EVGA GT 220
ASUS DVD rom
(now) 2 x 140m Coolermaster Side panel fans
1 x 120m Front Blue Led fan
1 x 120m Rear Blue Led fan
1 x 120m Corsair Top fan(belongs to my Corsair H50 Water CPU cooler - didn't need it so I put it in considering it's meant as a intake fan :D )
OS: Windows 7x64 Enterprise (she received it from her work)

Her needs - Office / Solitare but I have my Guild Wars / Starcraft 2 / Battlefield 2 installed on there in case a friend comes over and we want to lan or play over the net.

Could it be the ram - if so how come the old GT 8600 works then?
On that mobo before I setup my i7 i ran my GTX 260 (on the 975x so I don't think it would have been a compatible issue) and it worked fine

Also can't get into safe mode (pressing of F8 whilest on loading screen) cause i can't see anything after is finished trying to run from CD/DVD-rom.

Also I've seen this loading screen - if I decide to wait a full minute
Microsoft Corporation
But not every time.

I also placed my mom's HDD in my machine an did a system repair + restore thinking the HDD may be corrupt but as mentioned with the GT 8600 in there seem like no issues and it installed all the drivers for the new mobo ect ect

Also looked for BIOS updates but couldn't find a solid place to dld from, but then again thought I wouldn't need to update my bios if my GTX 260 worked

Let me know if there maybe something I'm missing :)

Hmmmmm. Odd, you definitely have the power connector for the motherboard connected right? its a common error so im just checking :p
It might be trying to display through the onboard gfx as first device and require you to change it in the CMOS.
The PCI-e is fine on your old board right? I couldnt tell for sure but the old 8600GT is working in the new setup right?
Does the G220 need external power? maybe there is something dodge going on there? Otherwise update the BIOS on the board and then check it again.

Well looking @ 975X website which BIOS update there would even help me out there?
Rocket-Boy

Far as I know there ain't no onboard GFX on this board :wtf:
Rear Panel: there was a onboard GFX wouldn't there be a port for me to plug in a monitor to it?

In regards to the PCI-e, the GT 8600 works fine in there (if it didn't heat up to the extreme it does and the fan worked), I would still use the card.
I haven't tried my GTX 260 in there now but before I updated to my i7 (November 2010) the card worked in there fine.

As far as I can see, the card (GT 220) is a simple plug in and install, no added power is really needed but I guess I could have incorrectly

Hmmm, so then the card doesnt require power, weirdness. Its possible that the slot isnt providing enough power but its unlikely.
Version 7.9
That is the latest one, if 2008 counts as latest :p
Um dude its a tricky one, maybe recheck the 260 and see if it still plays game. Update the bios anyway though.
you have tried new psu, different card, card in other pc - those are the things I would have suggested.

BTW good post, the included links made it easier to check. There isnt an external power connector on the GT-220 so its not that.
Maybe it just wants to be difficult? If you have defibbed it as many times as you have defibbed me then I can undestand why :D :D :D
