Evga GT 640 Graphics card

Hi,

I just bought a new GT 640 2gig Graphics card for my system but after installing the card there is no display via the DVI-I port (using an DVI 2 VGA adaptor). There is a beep from the motherboard so I presume the board is is detecting the card ok but could the problem be the DVI port? it has a mini HMDI port but I do not have a suitable cable for this, trying to source one but I do not want to waste money on a new cable if the problem could be something else. The card specs is asking for a minimal PSU rating of 350watts with 20 amps and the +12v rail, I have a psu rating of 450watts but only 15amps on the +12v rail, could this be the cause?

Yes the picture link is what i'm seeing after windows login screen, from boot untill the windows login screen everything looks ok. Once I eneter my password that is what happens.

PSU: Open 450w +12v rail with 15amp
Mother Board: Asrock H61M V2
CPU: G630 Intel 2.7Ghz
Ram: 4Gig Transcend DDR3 (Daul mode)
Os: Windows 7 Pro

What was your previous card?

Have you been in safe mode to uninstall the old graphics card drivers?

Previous card was a GT210 and I did a clean install of windows 7 before I installed the the new card and the on board graphics works okay

I have a 460 GTX with a 460W power supply and having no hassles at all. Both dvi outputs worked otb. Plays BF3 no problem.

I'd suggest that you give a screen with a DVI input a try. It could be that your graphics card's DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) is broken OR it could be that the frequency/resolution is too high for your screen.

I suppose the DVI to VGA converter only fits in the DVI-I port and not in the DVI-D (second) one? I just want to make 100% sure that you plug the converter into the correct port

It could also be a driver issue, in which case I'd suggest that you try and install the latest drivers and not the ones that came with the CD. Safe mode with networking should work for this.
