I been lurking a while and use the search function from time to time. I'm not a tech type guy and use my line for the usual residential type stuff and for working from home from time to time etc. if I am ill or can't get to the office.

Interesting one... EVONET notifies me of higher prices on 16 Sep 2019, less than a month's notice. So I make contact and say that it should be a month's notice. If one can't afford the 30% (yep 31.5% I think) increase you can then give notice and cancel. They say, nope, they are permitted to change the pricing. So I say okay, but then cancel my service... so here it is, no, I must give a month's notice to do so. And they will not release the line pending payment.

So essentially they could charge you 100k and hold you to ransom. The increase is literally in excess of 30%.

The best was the email regarding the price announcement which actually set out the charges of the competitors. Just weird and unacceptable all around. I should have left this crowd a long time ago. Be warned.

EVONET? Are they still a thing? I looked on their website and everything says "Coming Soon" which indicates it probably isnt.

Just give them some CPA justice. I got this from an article regarding a similar situation with MTN:

"MTN says Clause 16 of its contract allows them to increase subscriptions on existing contracts, provided they give subscribers 20 business days notice - essentially a month. Which they’ve done.

The Act says a term is unfair, unreasonable or unjust if “it is excessively one-sided in favour of any person other than the consumer" - which MTN’s price hike Clause 16 clearly is, or “The terms of the transaction or agreement are so adverse to the consumer as to be inequitable.”

But there’s a but… the company can give itself the right to insert that fee hike clause, as long as it gives its customers the right to terminate the agreement."

Those idiots cancelled ADSL with 1 day's notice and still haven't refunded me.
They cannot be trusted with a cent.
