Why thieves aren't touching electric cars

Electric vehicles (EVs) are far less likely to be stolen by thieves due to their advanced tracking and security technology and the lack of demand for their parts on the black market.

That is according to the US's National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and Institute for Highway Safety (IHS).

Are the screens not usable?
Considering thieves would steal just the radio face I think the US underestimates the resourcefulness of SA thieves 🤣

Wait til taxi's figure out how they can fit the drivetrain to a hiace and charge it by wiring it to the traffic light.

It's simply wrong to say "many modern cars feature advanced security". The CAN bus inside modern Toyotas do not have authentication ("encryption"). Thiefts break the headlight, connect to the CAN bus and send commands like unlock doors and start engine.

EVs are harder to steal because the EV vendors are better at software and computer science.

Most modern cars electronic systems are cobbled together junk frankly - in 10 years we are going to wonder why we didn't have just one ethernet (with Poe) network in the car and be done with it.

Just buy the least commonly sold car brand. Funny how insurers will still nail you no matter what you have.

True. Quote from Outsurance 5k per month. Santam not far behind with being outrageous.

Naked R1500...
Existing insurance R1700.

Thats for a 22' Subaru WRX. Never had a crash and over 25.
