Ex Google engineers start competitor search engine - 'Cuil'

Why do you want a Google replacement?

I've had 4 search queries on Google today, I average about 15 queries at top per week.

I'm tired of receiving links to reviews/stores/buy this buy that plain old dog landmines if you ask me.

I've used google advanced search terms, changed the keywords, changed the context, nothing helped. So it's time for a change.

I did a search on a topic I know a bit about that might not be obvious and or easily found. Frankly neither one was good enough to use on its own, but together it was good. I might have found a new way to do research and web searches:)

Add: Heres a laugh. Cuil does not find itself on the first couple of entries, at least google did find itself and cuil!!

Don't like the results presentation. The black background also seems very constricting and seems to make it seem like I have less monitor space to work with. The safe search also doesn't work very well at all..

Google rules all!

I won't use it...it doesn't spell check, the info if gives doesn't really help, it just comes straight out of the website's index page.

Google FTW!

Tried to do a search on "free stuff" gives me one page and if i go to page 2 it tells me

We didn’t find any results for “free stuff”
Some reasons might be...

a typo. Please check your spelling.
your search includes a term that is very rare. Try to find a more common substitute.
too many search terms. Please try fewer terms.
Finally, try to think of different words to describe your search.

Cuil clearly hasn't indexed the majority of websites yet. When I do a query for my real name at Google, I'm listed as the first search result. Cuil however has not indexed me yet. Not Cuil!

We’ll be back soon...

Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity.

Thanks for your patience.

Yea me 2, if you market yourself as a google replacement you better be able to replace them...

There goes the "far less machines than Google" statement!

What's next, sorry, due to overwhelming internets we cannot cache all those pages we bragged about!

Carp-o-la.

Doesn't find my site at all - even though I used words that place me on page one of Google - even some as No.1.

Bleh.
