Excessive Usage Policy

their are quite relevant (with respect) in that i don't think iburst will ever have issue with someone on PPU who uses as much bandwidth as they can. The profit they will make on that means that they would probably allow you to do whatever you wish.

By Excessive Usage they mean what you use once softcapped. They don't have a problem with PPU, in fact if you ran your PPU connection 24/7 you'd download what - 320GB = R320.000 for iBurst. That type of cash, they wouldn't mind seeing.

PPU isn't an issue here and I can't imagine anyone logically wanting to go on it as it's a kick in the balls for your average consumer.

The issue is what is this "excessive usage" amount, and what are these potential surprise charges? Why have they silently (and in a rather discrete section I might add) placed this on their website without notifying subscribers of a change in TOS? And furthermore, why would they dare have the audaicity to charge us more for bandwidth THEY are supposed to throttle correctly?

Has anyone heard any new information yet?

cos they incompentant?

I mean boastnig that they have increase employees from 40 monkies to 220 semi monkies still doesn't remove the fact there's still monkies....

Yes and I can't grasp the link between PPU and iBurst charging for excessive usage under the soft cap. These are two different mutually exclusive account options/types, as under the PPU you don't get (soft)capped and under the softcap you're not supposed to be charged any PPU fees.

(insert me confuzed here) :confused::confused::confused:

Ok, I'm on the old 2.5 @ R599 package (+ modem). I've not asked for any account change or anything of the sort. It's still exactly the same as it's always been. Will they now automatically set me up for PPU or am I still soft capped with a fixed monthly payment of R599?

Edit: err....nevermind

Quote" If you are currently on one of the old iBurst Wireless packages, your account will not automatically be provisioned with Pay-per-use. Instead, your data will either be capped or throttled when it is used up. "

thank gawd

As you've discovered you wont be put onto PPU. But this is not the issue here. You are still liable to be charged this phantom fee for this phantom amount of excessive usage. PPU should not even be mentioned here at all so put it out of your mind. The fee they want to charge for Excessive Usage is like a speeding fine, but they wont tell us how 'fast' we're allowed to go (to stick with the analogy).... This applies to all packages, new and old.

Each of the posts you seem to have highlighted clearly states that I doubt iBurst would have issue with PPU. Read them again.

What you're stating is quite obvious then. iBurst has soft cap and PayPer Use as MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE account options. It is obvious that since PPU charges per MB they WILL invoice you THAT above your monthly fee, while
with the softcap option the maximum they are legally allowed to invoice you
in terms of the agreement you have with them is the monthly fee only. I am sure that since 95c per MB is far more than the included cap
they will be happy to have you connect and download Linux distro's 24/7 under the scheme to only later cough up the equivalent of
a 5 series BMW for just that.

The Excessive Usage fee is not PPU and since its in no agreement nor did anyone agree to such a fee, they shouldn't be legally able to charge it.

PeterCH - If you see post #39, I misintepreted what riverdusty was referring to (the part where he states regardless of PPU). so i explained to him that there is no way that iburst would stop anyone on PPU.

Your post #40 reaffirms what I said in my post #39 about PPU. Yet you were somehow making it out as if I was saying they were going to cut off anyone who uses as much cap as they want on PPU. Which lead me to ask you whether you had read my post (and I should have specified especially the part you quoted):

Does the helpdesk site work for anyone to check bandwidth? or are you just meant to log on the iburst.co.za site and check there but only shows how much I've received and the other values don't load...

Cause to me thats even more banal now that they try to pull an excessive usage policy and then they can't even show me how much I've used

but only shows how much I've received and the other values don't load...

That's exactly what happened to me. Try "cancelling" the apparent PPU service and see if the other values return. Even if you are on one of the older packages, there is still an option to do that.

I freakin hope they didn't magically decide to put me on PPU cause im already like 4 gigs over my cap (still on old packages) but I am at throttled speeds so it shouldn't be...

Yeah, they better not just suddenly decide. Although, I'll sue and ask them to produce the piece of paper saying I conform with my signature on it ....

Exactly. iBurst don't have a foot to stand on with any of their bizarre new terms. The same goes for the excessive usage policy. If you didn't agree to it, they can't charge you for it. :)
