Exchange being migrated to latest MSAN

So tomorrow our exchange is being upgraded, quoted from the Telkom rep:

"Migration of DSL and Voice Services to the latest Multi Service Access Nodes.^NG"

At the moment I have to sync at 4MB because I'm far from the exchange and if I sync any higher my upload attenuation goes too high and I have problems. The exchange currently only goes to 10MB and beyond 512k upload I get issues.

Is this a generic explanation from them or can anyone tell me if this means VDSL?

They're busy laying MTN fibre but I'm not sure how great that's going to be on my pocket.
 
Just a heads up.

If they did what they did in my area they installed the MSAM at the exchange so my distance was still the same.

I am on 10MB and 2.4km from the exchange. Speed tests put me around 8MB on the speedtests.

So their MSAM made no difference. I still cannot get VDSL or anything faster.

VDSL only works under 1.5KM from the exchange.

Well that would be ****. In my old house they upgraded us and I went from being unable to sync over 5mb (was about 4km from the exchange) to being able to sync @ 20mb (ADSL2+) and having VDSL.

Hopefully it's that kind of upgrade.
 
If you are getting adsl 20mb now then you will get a minimum of 20mb vdsl.

What is you download attenuation currently?

That where I lived previously.

Where I live now, I'm on 4MB (I can sync at 7120kbps but then my upload goes to 640kbps and becomes unstable)

They are upgrading tomorrow

Line stats are

"ATUC Current Rate": "4096 kbps"
"ATUC Attenuation": "22.5 dB", "
"ATUC SNR": "11.8 dB",

"ATUR Current Rate": "512 kbps",
"ATUR SNR": "12 dB",
"ATUR Attenuation": "38 dB"
 
They're done and nothing's changed. Down for a couple hours.

Give it time. Like even a week or two.

From the time a techie phoned me to sort out a very noisy line, and advising me of the fact that we had already been moved to a new 'box' (think DSLAM ?), it took about 2 weeks for them to finally finish things ... after which time I checked my available speeds had gone up from a max of about 7Mbps to around 22Mbps now.
 
VDSL runs at a different frequency than ADSL.

For example, my ADSL2+ configuration says I'm capable of 23+ Mbps; however, when put to VDSL it's entirely different since ADSL2+ only goes up to 24Mbps. From the same line stats my VDSL2 Max speed is supposedly 60+ Mbps.
