Hi guys, so basically I moved house in June from Diep River to Plumstead (literally about 100m from old place to new place, but fall under a different exchange). The exchange is at max capacity (it took them 2 months of me phoning in to finally get told that) and there's no ETA as to when I might get a line.

So, any options for high bandwidth with a decent ping? The ping for 3g is bearable for gaming half the time, but the packet loss and expensive data bundles are working on my nerves... Are there any other options for gaming and heavy downloads? Is there any way to get connected to a different exchange? Wireless providers? etc?

I'm lucky to have around 50-90ms for gaming on 3g but the packet loss and spikes make me want to break something :( (and I miss being able to download more than 3gb a week)

we can't recommend an act of homicide directed at one of your neighbours ....

Have you looked at the Telkom 10+10 package
399x24months

or.

One of the higher content Afrihost(MTN backbone) packages?
month by month, but you must buy the modem if you don't have a suitable unit.?

A temporary solution if possible is to get a neighbour close enough and install a 2nd ADSL line [billing is separate from their billing and any discrepancies you can sort out] and then run it through to you wirelessly until you can get yours sorted out. While it may be okay to convert that neighbour's existing primary line, the point i made above comes into play.

Good idea or bad? Comments :)

Bad, I'd say.

There are no ports available, adding the line at someone else won't change that AFAIK.

Also, internet sharing, ICASA.

I'm already on the waiting list (apparently)
I don't want something I have to sign a 12-24 month contract on because when I do get a line I'll still have to pay that too, so preferably anything month to month.
I already had a look at Afrihost mobile data, but the 20GB package is the same price per gig as the 2GB+1GB from 8ta (which is what I'm using now), and the topup is twice as much as buying another prepaid bundle :/
Tried organising something with neighbours, they weren't keen on the idea...

That homicide option is looking more and more appealing :P

PM them anyway, there has been instances where they found free ports for people and had them up and running much quicker than sitting on a long waiting list which might only happen next year.

Your choice.

dude i just moved to Ottery/Wynberg and am on the wynberg exchange which is completely full

i messaged Telkomza and he sorted me out , there was really no hope for me on that exchange(lying in bed connected to my 10mb line on my laptop....lol )

When you say "just" moved, are you talking before or after June? Because I fall under the Wynberg exchange

Well you get a Afrihost 10GB + 10GB data deal for R497. Run it on MTN LTE is a good temp solution. Low latency with not too bad data price.

Since its a month to month you can just use that until you get your adsl sorted. Ohh and the 10+10GB link is only valid until tomorrow I think.

I'm using telkom mobile at the moment; a 14Mb/s HSDPA stick with an extender cable. LTE signal is horrendous in this little zone, my brother's LTE modem always defaults to HSDPA/WCDMA. So I guess I might as well just wait until TelkomZA notices the PM or a neighbour has a sudden heart attack
