Exhaust and Manifold

I have a leaking Exhaust and Manifold and I think of replacing both of them.
How much am I looking at?
Where can I do it around JHB?
I tried SAC, and Speedy but they are pricey!

BTW I have a 2001 Opel Astra 1.8 CSE
 
I had the same problem, and had my Exhaust Manifold replaced last week.

This was for 1997 Honda Ballade 160i and cost me about R3500 parts and labour at a Honda service centre.

Oh shucks. I also got quoted around that much few weeks ago. I'm still searching for a better price
 
2nd hand is you best bet for low prices, if you're located in Pretoria, drive down to Pretoria Gardens, there are a lot of scrapyards there, some deal with only Opel cars. You can pick up spares there for a fraction of the price of what GM will charge for "new" parts.

Most parts are good as new, bought a crank pulley, crank angle sensor bracket, crank gear and Cambelt tensioner pulley there, all of which looked like brand new like the parts they sold @ GM except that it cost 1/4 of the price.

Btw. exhaust requires welding so best take it to a place to get sorted, get some quotes beforehand but some places don't mind doing the job if you supply the parts.
 
Dude, if SAC wants to do the repairs for FREE, stay AWAY ! ! they will give you car back with much more problems and probably steal some of your parts and replace with damaged ones.

For pro exhaust tuners, go to Zabka Motorsport or Viper Exhausts. The best you will ever find. they both in JHB, Zabka in West Rand and Viper East.
 
Don't leave ppl alone with your car is my advice, even ppl who service cars are dodge, I never let anyone work on my car if I'm not looking, not that I let anyone work on it anyway. It's like taking your PC to the local PC store, you just know they are gonna try and screw you.
 
I just called Speedy now and they are charging me R1600 just for the manifold
and R2600 for bot exhaust and manifold.

Reasonable?

dude, i just referred you to 2 of the best in the exhaust market. Its like you begging for average workmanship on your car :confused:

I was looking for their contacts but I can't seem to find them.
 
I will definitely go for the secondhand manifold. It's not something that pops on all cars, just some, for some mysterious reason. So a secondhand one will go for many years to come.
 
Just an update. I took my car to Speedy just to confirm that i had to replace them exhaust/manifold crap.
Luckily it wast a gasket that shifted. So the guy just put it back and put some "muti" and it sounds new.
I saved myself a few thousands of buying a new manifold/exhaust.

Aaah, the flange gasket. If it's blown there it most likely sounds like a truck after a while.
