Exhaust tips | chrome wearing away

I've noticed that the chrome on my exhaust tips is pitting / oxidizing. This makes cleaning the carbon deposits harder to clean off, as the shininess of the chrome has gone. The left exhaust tip seems to be worse than the right, but both are losing their chrome finish on the inside of the tips.

Can a chrome or metal polish bring back the smooth finish? Or should I just get replacement tips?

Have you tried Autosol Metal Polish? It worked wonders on my bikes chrome exhaust. Just in case @Splinter sees this post, this advice is just from my own experience. The person who uses my advice might have different results. No need to try and get me banned again.

Grow up. I didn't try and get you banned.

However, I asked you where you got the advice that you gave earlier - which would lead to a person getting fired/dismissed IRL. You didn't respond, but have carried on like a spoilt child for a while :)

Yeah, that's my thinking too. Exhaust tips are cheap enough I guess. I'm assuming I can just get them replaced at Supa Quick? The ones I have fitted are stock, so assuming they would be easy enough to remove and replace.

I had another look, and the pitting is quite deep. So I'd need a fair amount of elbow grease with a drilling machine polishing tip to get them smooth again. They're also chrome plated, so I doubt I'd ever get the finish as smooth as the original chrome.

I guess I should just replace them. Anyone know a decent place that does exhaust tips in Cape Town? I'm assuming a place like Supa Quick should offer that service.
 
Been doing some reading online, and a common theory on other forums is that turbo engines cause the chrome tips to wear faster than NA engines. That sounds like BS to me. The turbo has nothing to do with the exhaust tips. The turbo has nothing to do with combustion either (besides forced induction). Turbo's don't change the chemistry of burnt fuel coming out of the exhaust, so in my opinion, the exhaust gasses should be the same.

Anyway, it just seems that the chrome plating doesn't last as long. I'll get stainless steel tips as @UrBaN963 recommended.

Complete BS. As you say a turbo literally is forced induction into the motor. After the combustion it’s exactly the same as an NA motor.
