Can anyone, who has used both Postfix & Exim please share some experience with me? Which of these 2 did you prefer to use, and why?

cPanel uses Exim (and AFAIK, only Exim), VirtualMin seems to use Postfix by default and often times when a custom server is installed a client doesn't know which to use so we recommend Exim. But, what are the differences between these 2, from your experience, if you don't mind telling me?

I have used Qmail on FreeBSD 4.8 last and don't even consider this as a good mail system anymore, so I'm not even looking at it right now.

Forget the technical differences, as they both are great MTA's. You really cant loose with which one you choose.

I choose Exim (Used it inconjunction with MySQL and LDAP), cause im a Debian fan and user, and although its the default MTA for Debian, I do think its a little easier do get your head around than postfix. Ive worked with postfix, but for most of my installations, ive always gone back to Exim.

But I say that ... and I do think that messing with MTA's etc are a thing of the past... cause of Zimbra. Maybe something you should look into.

For me:

Exim = more security options, but a bit painful and long winded to put up. Great if you really really really hate spam.
Postfix = I can install and config it in one line of syntax. Its pretty easy. Fantastic for massive deployment or quick management.

There's very little to choose between the two. Exim is rumored to have an easier setup, but I've found Postfix far more agreeable. But that's personal preference. Both have an excellent security record, both are good on resources, both run circles around sendmail and qmail.

Such a contentious thing :D

I can speak from recent experience of setting up both Exim and Postfix - I found Exim to be pretty convoluted, especially with the many small files config of Exim 4. Postfix setup has been pretty easy and I have all the virtual domains and so on working. I think you're most likely going to get many opinions like koffie's (since you ruled out the fun flaming ;) ) as I doubt there's much lost between them.
