So I want to expand the DSTV to my braai area which is approx 30m away. Initially I thought to do it wireless, but can't find a suitable solution that is confirmed to work and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

At the moment I am doing some paving work and I thought I can just as well do cables and place it under the paving. The question now is do I use normal coax or is there something else I need to consider that will have adequate signal strength, etc?

Also, depending on the cable, how do I hook it up at the decoder?

I would put the cabling in conduit.
HDMI over Cat5 extender would work.

HDMI cable from decoder into transmitter extender --> ethernet cable --> receiver extender --> HDMI cable into TV at braai area

I have a brand new HDMI over ethernet extender (supports 3D) up to 60M. Was meant to use it but wife decided she didn't want TV in bedroom. If you're interested, you can PM me.

Thanks, I will investigate that option.

Binoculars

That could become expensive to have a couple of people watching! :)

where can one buy all these gadgets? I wanted to do something similar, but effort and cost just put me off

Some examples

Managed to find a cheaper one which works perfectly yet they don't stock it anymore - round the R800 mark
