Expect a 2% VAT increase

That is exactly what was in the budget. VAT increase and an expansion of zero rates foods.

VAT zero-rating introduced on
  • specific edible offal
  • unflavored dairy liquid blends
  • specific canned and bottled vegetables
to assist poor households.

Not much given back in terms of zero rates foods to help poor households.

Vat increase is fair.
Additional 2% rate is 13.3% increase in VAT collection

13.3% increase VAT on in most of your food, all of your medicine, hospital fees, doctors electricity, water, pikitup
Basically 2% VAT increase on everything.

This sounds horrible.

What is a dairy liquid blend?

If it is milk, call it that. If not, WTH is it?

What are bottled vegetables?

lol people bitching about 2%, still below first world averages and inline with 3rd world averages. Yes we will be paying more and it sucks, but considering how long we waited before we increased VAT initially and dwindling pool of tax payers, it was inevitable...........

Difference is, in a lot of those countries, you get value for the taxes. **** generally works and public service is normally pretty good. In SA, taxes just enrich the politicians and the country behind.

Which is still better than just taxing the middle class more.

Yes we are bitching about 2% VAT because the government has made no effort to save money.
They have too many ministries and waste money like a drunken sailor.
They have too many perks
Their policies do not growing the economy.
They encourage corruption (How many people are in jail after Zondo commission?)

We get no services for the existing taxes we pay:
  • Broken school system - we have to pay for private schools
  • Police failed - we have to use ADT and take insurance
  • Hospitals failed (Life Esidimeni) we have to get private health
  • Eskom failed we have to get Solar
  • Rand water - have to get bore-hole/jojo
  • etc
We basically double taxed - pay tax for police services which don't work then pay "tax" again for ADT.
I don't mind paying taxes if I get value for money.

You also need to look at the overall taxes:
  • VAT
  • PAYE tax
  • Capital Gains Tax
  • Fuel levy/tax
  • RAF tax
  • Sugar Tax/Health Promotion levy
  • Import Duties Tax
  • Tyre Tax
  • CO2 Tax (on motor vehicle emissions)
  • Plastic bag levy Tax
  • Inheritance tax / Estate duty
  • Transfer Duty Tax
  • Company income tax
  • Dividend Tax
  • Interest taxation
  • Lump-sum pre-retirement tax
  • Lump-sums upon retirement tax
  • Securities Transfer Tax
  • Sin Tax (on Cigs, Drinks)
  • Skills development levy tax
When you add these all up, we overtaxed.

We taxed very high vs GDP

Tax is theft.

Government has run out of other peoples money to steal and give away.

You speak off South Africa as the only country with corruption. I suggest you look up the corruption perception index

I don't expect a lot from someone that doesn't know what they talking about....

Did someone put a stick up your ass?

Literally every country has some form of corruption. It’s unavoidable.

PS: it’s not “off” it’s “of”.

They said unflavoured dairy liquid blends, so maybe not Tropika, probably more like mageu and maas and other stuff like that

Yes that was just the quickest to find but you get a lot of those dairy/juice and dairy/maize type of drinks.
