Johannesburg - The African National Congress Youth League has resolved to start writing a series of open letters to cabinet members regarding the implementation of ANC policy resolutions.

In a statement released by the league on Monday, it said all letters will be written by the Secretary General of the league, Njabulo Nzuza.

The first, last week, was aimed at Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, who the league advised to implement a 0% fee increment urgently and to spend less time meeting with university vice chancellors.

Nzuza also revealed that the league had held numerous private discussions with the Nzimande but felt it was going nowhere.

In the statement written by the organisation’s spokesperson Mlondi Mkhize, it explained why its embarking on such a project.

“This decision is motivated by the twin objectives of putting political pressure on government to fast track the implementation of radical interventions at the level of state policy and the need to assert a policy-centred discourse,” Mkhize wrote.

Slammed feedback

The ANCYL also claimed it viewed the open letters as a critical driving force in re-engineering the ANC toward becoming an effective strategic political centre at the driving seat of the "National Democratic Revolution".

It also slammed some of the feedback its first letter received.

“The ANC Youth League has noted the mischievous reactions, by some sections of our polity, to our first open letter to the Minister of Higher Education. Some have elected to misinterpret our action through the opportunistic lenses of an imaginary factional battle that we are supposedly mounting against selected members of our government. We reject this nonsensical proposition for the shallowness that informs it.”

The statement finishes off by defending the league’s decision to start the letters.

“We therefore see no contradiction between our Open Letters on public policy and our principled call to close ranks and discuss organisational differences only in ANC structures.”

Blade (via the SACP) has openly called for an investigation into state capture and opposed the Gordhan persecution. Now Zuma is sending fluffy after him. He's in danger of being recalled.
