Hi all

I am a Java developer looking for a new job. I was looking to get around R27k to R30k with a BSc in Computer Science and 3 years dev experience. Is that an unreasonable amount to ask for? What is the rate these days? Please advise.

That's on par but HR and Management will prolly drive it down to 24k.

Be careful about basing your expectations on CTC, as your take-home will vary from company to company. Be sure to find out exactly which deductions will be going off your salary, apart from PAYE, so that you can have an idea of what you're going to nett...

+1 - my CTC/12 and my take home monthly salary (after tax), has a 7k difference

That. My package (lol!) is structured in such a way that my monthly CTC and take-home pay differ with about 35%.

My take home is less than 60% of my CTC (tax, pension, death & disability insurance etc.)

I had an offer yesterday. They gave me a 3 month contract with the CTC I requested, but nothing regarding future increases or bonuses. What I am asking is that should it be something I should expect or is it more of a perk as I have never gotten an increase unless I moved jobs.

How good you are (how well you do in the interview), and what you were paid last are much bigger factors than some idea of the "going rate".

I would need a 50% increase to go from a permanent job to a 3-month contract.
