expensive fiber over wireless internet providers

so why is all fiber over wireless providers so expensive?
for example
jenny internet, R1.2k for a 10meg line
hitech wireless R1.2k -R3.4k for a 10meg line
skyworks R1.2k for a 12meg line
and the list goes on.

some even have packages that goes up to R5-R10k per month
 
Pretoria WISP 10MB R500 No FuP, uncapped, unthrottled. Installs From R2500

Primarily they're big and they have massive networks to maintain and employees and taxes and whatever else. It is rather ridiculous what people pay just for a 10MB connection. Also, ICASA License is around R150K per year so there's that too.
 
There's no such things as fibre over wireless. But yeah they are really milking it. Wireless providers could have cornered the market but instead just matched prices and in areas with poor connectivity and no competition even pushed them up. They could do this because they just rebrand in every area they go.

As already pointed out, there is no such thing. All they are selling is dedicated bandwidth services at a very specific contention ratio ( claimed) using probably PTP MW links and giving the service a catchphrase to fool the gullible public.


As an example of the BS they talk on their websites:

Any wireless kit worth its salt isn't cheap. A decent pair of radios is about R22k. Work it backwards from there.
 
I pay R810 for 6mbps Wireless. Installation was R2500.

I have had more down time with these fcks compared to my Telkom 4mbps ADSL copper line.
 
Yes, the technology is not cheap. Hence the higher than normal price. For me, it is not just about that but more about the BS marketing associated with these "solutions".
 
Same paying R1400 for a 15mbps line and easyweb has gone dogshit over the past few months. 10 months left of the contract and then they can come fetch their ****.

Its generally very cheap actually as most run ubiquity ac or mikrotik, the expensive stuff is more point to point stuff that actually works.

Most run off Class licenses which are not r150k a year

Also it's not per user. The per user equipment is very cheap. Don't know why we always have to sit with this mentality of recovering all your costs from one user in a single go. As I said they could have cornered the market if they asked more realistic prices like R200-R300.

As I understand it there's an initial application cost which is FAR less than R150k. There's no recurring cost and only a percentage of the profit, not even revenue. It's only if there's spectrum attached that there's a recurring cost.

Yip, that's why we charge R500 for a 10MB for a home users.

Ubiquity and mikrotik is cheap for a reason. It doesn't have the horse power for any advanced interference mitigation and at any large co-location site it struggles. The best you can do is give it horns or buy the expensive stuff which also includes PtMP such as the Jet.
 
If they are not using proper quality radio link equipment, they can never meet their claimed performance and that means their product definition is flawed from the outset.
Their entire business plan is built on sand.
