I saw a installer, he does not look for best signal, if there is a signal he is happy, and a few of these bosses I know drive very expensive things.

Ubiquity and mikrotik is cheap for a reason. It doesn't have the horse power for any advanced interference mitigation and at any large co-location site it struggles. The best you can do is give it horns or buy the expensive stuff which also includes PtMP such as the Jet.

Unless they're using licensed spectrum the horsepower stuff is useless.

Yeah but the point is the "horsepower" only comes into play with licensed spectrum. At standard power levels it comes down mostly to how good you did the installation.

None of the products you quoted in the link works in the ISM bands as defined in SA. All those bands are licensed bands.

Some of the bands are licensed. In the 5Ghz range you can use it without a spectrum license if you have a license to self provision.

Most run ubiquity in ISM in my experience, well that is what they do where I am, all of them. What are the current PTMP licensed options for a ZA Wisp? Seems a no brainier to go licensed on a tech level

From a regulatory view a Wisp would need a network license to operate. Spectrum wise I don't even think it's possible currently.

ye, spectrum wise exactly and even hardware. Im sure there are guys doing it niche but every wisp i know is in ISM. @r00igev@@r mentioned the Jet which is between 4.9-5.9 GHz

Even Vodacom does fixed wireless in ISM.
