Well one of the 2 ISP's in my signature inquired about what is being said of them and that I don't include any info, so in the interests of their frail little egos here goes:
@lantic:
I get ADSL March 2005, go with @lantic since they have been so good over the years for the businesses I do IT for. I recommended them "wyd en suid", Actually had a friend working there.
So in April they decide that ADSL 3GB shaped accounts with 5 e-mails shouldn't be R249 anymore and they make it R299. OK, I whine once to them but continue using their service.
All is quiet till in September when the 1 November hard cap rumours starts up. So, I phone @lantic on around the 19th of October and inquire about the hardcap and if they will be implementing it and recieve this comment: "No Sir, nothing will change with your account."
Guess what I get the 2nd of November:
ADSL INFO TO @LANTIC CLIENTS
Dear @lantic customer,
As you might have heard in the media, Telkom has restructured their wholesale ADSL packages on November 1st, 2005.
How will this impact you as a consumer? These changes will mean that once you reach the “cap” on your ADSL account, you will no longer have ANY access to the Internet. We have tried to ensure that our @lantic customers receive the best possible product offers by providing flexible solutions with the right balance between performance and cost - in most cases, there will be savings and better performance.
Please note that all existing ADSL solutions will remain active after November 1st, but with a “hard cap” once the transfer limit is reached.
We will be selling two types of solutions:
Usage-based ADSL - where you only pay for the amount of data you transmit and receive PLUS you will have the option to limit your own account.
UNCAPPED ADSL – these are ADSL solutions aimed at power users and businesses with no limit on the amount of data you transmit and receive on these accounts.
Below is a summary of our new ADSL options:
blah blah blah...
They probably did this just so I couldn't jump ship before then.
So I tell them I'm gonna leave them cause they a big bunch of liars and that their products is not viable anymore for me.
So Marcia Beckley (support or something manager) replies to me, very helpful and professional lady (a boon to their company), asks me to stay with @lantic and lets try to solve the problem.
So I we have a period of too and fro e-mail sending, I state my requirements Maybe something like the OpenWeb 5GB account with the local browsing after cap (I play games on SSG servers), I'd even be willing to pay more than what OpenWEb asks (just to keep my e-mail adresses).
They say they are discussing this with IS and will bring in some is accounts
Anyway in the end this is all they offer from IS is:
Business ADSL 512kbps Uncapped at a VAT inclusive price of R 1539 with a once off Activation Fee of R 1710 (VAT inclusive)
I mean, WTF kind of drugs are they using at that place? For home use, please comeon (rolling eyes).
I then get hardcapped in 25th of November 2005 (ooh, im the big freakin abuser, yeah baby!) and on 30 November I put in my cancellation form and have to endure another month with the useless/lying/deaf ISP.
More recently (last week) I try to give support to a client with a dailup @lantic account, one time I wait 25 minutes, the other time 15 minutes, before my call is answered, must be that damn DataPro influence because all call previously (like last year) were answered very promply. It kept telling me I'm in position 8 or 6 (or whatever it first said) till the call gets answered, thats not very logical is it?
I ask if there is a problem with the smtp server (client couldn't send mail out), the technician says no and tries to help. Next day it works without a problem (rolling eyes).
Another thing, the client detail forms from @lantic sucks now. In the past they were all nicely laid out, with borders to keeps all the detials nice and coherent, but in December they "updated" them and they have lots of "white space" (if you @lantic people dont know what that is, use wikipedia) and not very informative.
Once they were the best, now they are worse than M-Web (which for an even more expensive/suckering-new-users ISP, at least gives great service).
SAOL:
All problems have apparently been solved or improved satisfactorily. Their accounts dont have login hassles anymore since they went up in price and call centre is answered quicker.
Well, I'm going to a OpenWeb 5GB IS account, hope Mr Beep has the cure for my woe and despair...
(To the inquiring ISP, if you dont know your service still sucks(SAOL) or that your service has degraded (@lantic), maybe you should look into that or get out of the industry. Feel free to PM me, communications will be kept confidential.)
And that is all I have to say about these two ISP's... for now!
Edited for typing mistakes.
