Hello
My passport expired a while back and now I need to leave the country for a bit,
Where can I get a new one?
Home Affairs...Department of Health?

Department of Home Affairs. Cnr Barrack and Parade street. R400 and 2 photos.

Money....:erm:
Why? I pay my taxes....
And far more of that tax money goes towards funding things that the whole population uses like IDs. R400 is a subsidised price and far less than the real cost. If you can afford to travel then you have enough money for this.

Quit whining.

Take extra money with, make sure you take cash with. They don't accept cards.

Take acceptable passport photos with. Take your old passport with (or be prepared to pay double as a fine).

Or just say it's a first time application

Home Affairs.

I hope you don't need to leave in the next few weeks - SLA is 6 weeks (but often it's ready in 2 or 3)

They will pick up on their system that you have obtained a previous passport.

If his passport is expired he might as well take it in with him
They have a "system" now?

Sure they probably do but they never bothered to check with mine. Probably too much wek to press a few buttons.

But yes if you have it take it with you. The new application route is only for when it gets stolen or lost etc.

I have just renewed my passport and must say that it was a generally pleasant experience. Applied on the 19th November and was read on the 11th December. I did go to the Paarl office though.

I renewed my passport at randburg office. Easy, quick and it took 1 week for the it to be ready, they have really jacked themselves up in this regard.

I recently renewed my passport, and did not have to take photos of my own. They took the photos themselves; it's digital now. Perhaps this varies from branch to branch.

I had to take my ID and R 400. They also wanted to see my old passport; if you renew your passport more than six months before it expires, they count it as a second passport, and then it costs R 800 rather than R 400.
