Explanation of Value Added Services

An iBurst package also provides you with a free email address, fax2email number and VoIP number. The VoIP services provides boosters for making outbound calls that are cost comparable to Telkom and even lower. iBurst VoIP services are known as iCall and a typical device to use is an ATA with an analogue phone, fax machine or DECT handset. It is also possible to use iCall with a variety of softphones. Examples of softphones are ekiga for PCs, CSIPSimple for android and Media5 for iPhones. Here is a ringtone that you can use with your preferred softphone.

iCall is provided using a service provider class VoIP infrastructure that is located at iBurst's multiple data centres.

The free VoIP number is known as iCall Starter and is limited to one per subscriber. Additionally, more numbers are available via the standard iCall service. The standard iCall service has a R50 subscription per month. The full amount is available to use on call charges. iCall accounts can only be used on a single device and support call forwarding and call holding.

It is possible to use iBurst as a dedicated voice line (granny phone) by configuring the PPPOE settings on an ATA to [email protected] (password: freeconnect) That ATA is connected to the Dark Knight and the only services provided on this account is local walled garden access and access to the SIP servers. The [email protected] is also available on Telkom's ADSL.

A valued added service can be purchased named Uncapped Anytime that provides the ability to continue using internet services at a throttled speed of either 64 kb/s or 128 kb/s. However, during the Midnight to morning hours there no throttling occurs. The maximum possible bandwidth capacity usable with this service during normal hours which excludes the above hours (0:01am to 08:00am) is 26GB for 64kb/s and 52GB for 128 kb/s. This is the maximum theoretical capacity possible using a single modem and either 64kb/s or 128kb/s. It is possible to use this value added service with multiple modems.

A value added service can be purchased to allocate a static public IP address to your modem. This means that you always authenticate and use the same IP address. This can be used for service like hosting your own email or web services and even security cameras.

Mail services

Most service providers subscribe to blacklisting services for email including iBurst. We diligently apply spam filtering services for email and subscribe to the same database as other service providers. These services are a necessity to combat spam. However, often service providers are inadvertently listed and a request has to be made to be removed.

These services can be checked by typing in the IP addresses of the mail servers on the following tools:
- http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx
- http://www.anti-abuse.org/multi-rbl-check/

The IP address of the mail server is available in the message header of an email and as an example the IP address of the messages could be 41.213.80.61 and 41.213.80.62.

When a mail server is listed on these blacklisting services then a submission needs to be made to the listed organization to be removed. This process can take up to 24 hours. Often organization like Yahoo and att have their own blacklisting services, whereby a message sender needs to apply to them directly. In that case, it usually takes longer to be unblacklisted, up to 48 hours.

Using other SMTP relay servers might display different results dependant on the status of the IP address listed. To combat and eliminate spam we need to constantly monitor these lists but when a listing happens the messages are blocked until cleared. Some organizations have blacklisting based on user feedback. The problem with this is that IP addresses might be listed by a user even though it is not spam but deemed by the user to be undesirable.
