I have just bought ab explora 2 and smart lnb trying to do a DIY installation, I swapped the normal lnb for smart lnb and connect coax cable from unicable to universal on the smart lnb, I can't get signal on unicable/sat under setup wizard but I get signals on smatv now my problem is I'm not getting all my channels and HD channels playing as standard even when connected with hdmi cable. Can anyone help me signal strength is 100% and quality is 98% but I'm struggling and I stay in a house not a complex. Any advice

Connect to unicable on the lnb.

thats the wrong port
you need to connect it to the unicable on the smart LNB

1. Any of the Exploras CANNOT use the Universal port on the LNB.
2. You MUST connect the Explora to the unicable ports.
3. You MUST terminate the other unicable ports on the LNB.
4. Best to use Port A on the SLNB. That is normally the one that does NOT have a termination on it.
5. The Explora default network settings will work as is, do not change anything.
6. I hope you installed the SLNB exactly in the same position as the old LNB, especially the skew angle.
7. Signal strength must be better than 80% and signal quality should exceed 95%, ideally should be 100% on ALL channels.

Sorry I meant unicable port on the SLNB. I connected on the unicable the exact position but I only get signal on smatv not uni/sat

The SLNB should be model LMX 501. It has 4 ports Three are marked A, B, C. Those are the unicable ports for use with Explora decoders.

Your next step has to be to find out from the body corporate what the settings are supposed to be for connecting an Explora to the opto convertor.

I'm having an issue. I can only get signal in the 60%. Even moving the dish slightly only gets worse or no signal but not better. So I see that the cables are damaged. When the installer did the new dish installation he simply transplanted the two old cables. We've only been using one but I see that the 3rd port has a terminator on it. So what about the unused cable that doesn't have a terminator?

I also can't remember the angle the LNB needs to be turned and the online info is a bit conflicting.

the unused port without a terminator is a legacy port - so for old non PVR type decoders.
LNB Skew you could try tilting slightly I can't for the life of me remember the exact degree but I think 4 O'clock is what i used to aim for (the lnb head part being the hour hand and the dish being the face (If that made any sense :) ) and then had someone sit and watch the TV signal to see if i tilted it just a smidge left or right and see how signal went up or down.

the issue might just be the tips of the cables (by dish or by decoder) if - you cut those and just put connectors or that doesnt work and you think you need all new cables i had a similar issue (low signal) and before I tried anything (besides cutting tips) i just had a spare cable not long enough to work not neatly but i connected to the lNB and down the side of the house and through a window in to TV room and signal was better - so i went out and got more cable and did the heavy work of trying to put that through the conduits.

No there's 3 uniports. One is terminated but 2 have cables. We're only using one cable so I don't know if the non-terminated one makes a difference. I can't find a terminator anywhere.

I already redid the decoder connector multiple times and the cable looks fine on this end. Luckily the original installer left about 10 meter of extra cable so I can just pull that through to the dish.

The signal has slowly gotten worse as the problems got more. Thursday it missed recordings and from Friday onward it kept on wanting to validate and gave a PVR not activated error every time you want to record. For some weird reason though if I leave it on channel 100 it does not ask to validate and you can watch everything on the PVR but can't record.

ah so wire going to nowhere basically - you could try swapping if you think the port is a bit messed up - doubt it but worth a try

ya try the extra cable if its that then cool if not then the midge left , smidge right test is the way to go - but if the entire dish is not aligned eish I found that the most difficult to do without the sat finder story.

as for the channel 100 story ya that is not like your imagination or anything that channel just always works no matter what never asks validation etc :)

Oh well. Other cable is even worse. Luckily I have a sat finder but was able to do it from the tv last time when I didn't have so that shouldn't be a problem.

How important is this terminator since it was working with one of them missing for quite some time?
