Forgive me if I missed it in search, but can anyone with an Explora and a plug-in power consumption meter tell me what the standby and operational power consumption is.

Does it still need a mini-sub-station to power it like the old Pace HD decoder?

I still think that name is unfortunate however.

I can't give a figure but assume it's nominal. I have the Xplora, PS3 and an Apple TV on an el-cheapo Proline 650VA UPS.

Cheers Azimuth. Looks like I will have to take my wattmeter along and go visit a store and measure one myself.

Hi, Did you ever find out about the Explora power consumption? I have the old Pace HD PVR and it runs very hot. I'm running it from a UPS and when the power goes out, I unplug it so it doesn't drain the batteries.

I have a CCTV VCR that stays on all the time and is completely cool, even though the 2TB hard disk never stops spinning.

Someone said its not the disk that makes the DSTV PVR hot, but the electronics. I'm hoping the newer Explora has a better design.

The explora doesn't generate nearly as much heat and seems to use less power. The power supply in the old pace I think was buggered as it used to get incredilbly hot while the Explora doesn't

@YingYang: That should be less than the Pace, so that's good to know.

BTW, 3.75A implies it runs off 12VDC, i.e. it has an external power supply - is that right? I'm wiring my house with 12VDC, so I can plug a lot of my electronic devices in without needing to use their supplies. That will also be nice if i can do the same with it.
