Explora WiFi disconnects in Standby?

I've attached a DStv WiFi dongle to my Explora. the WiFi signal is reported as 82% and shows as four arcs on the Explora. Streaming SD on my 4mbps line is perfectly fine. Downloading (when it works -- see below) is perfectly fine. Basically, the WiFi connection to the router is good and my 4mbps line is working fine. This question is about the WiFi connectivity in Standby mode...

I put the decoder into Standby when I'm done to avoid the HDD buffering for no reason for hours.

Sometimes when I turn the decoder on, it goes straight to the Connectivity Checker and I have to "reconnect" to the WiFi by pressing OK a few times. It always connects back fine.

I've set Scheduled Recordings between 1am and 6am, but these don't seem to work -- I left a download queued and the Explora in Standby, but the download didn't start/continue and nothing more had downloaded by the next morning.

When a download was running during the day, I put the decoder into standby to test. When I turned it on a while later, the WiFi had disconnected and nothing more had downloaded.

Bottom line -- does the Explora maintain / use a WiFi connection when in Standby Mode?

If set my router to use the same static/fixed IP for the Explora, but this doesn't seem to have solved it.
