Extending home Network

Hi.

I have a single router network at home. Unfortunately the wireless doesn't reach more than a third of the house. I'd like to extend the network, but I don't want to run more wires across my house.

My router is a Netgear DG834. Are there routers less than R1000 that would give me a noticeably stronger signal ( I don't want a range extender as as far as I understand that makes the signal more directional ).

There is also phonejack in the deadzone of my home. Is it possible to connect a device ( a switch, router, etc ) to the phonejack, such that it is still part of my home network with my current router ? What device would I need ?

I know there is also the option of wireless extenders, but I would probably need more than 1 to extend the signal far enough, and I understand there are performance issues involved with wireless extenders.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Go look at an Asus router, I have found that their range are the best.

Get yourself a second router and create a wireless bridge

@bokka, thanks, I'll see what they have.

@sa-rab, I'd rather avoid the wireless route, if I can use existing wiring in the house, but I will fall back to that if there's no other options.

We have two WiFi routers in the house. The one is the ADSL modem/WiFi at the one end of the house and other one at the lounge end of the house (linked to the first one with a LAN cable), gives us 100% coverage that would not be possible with a single device. Called Surname and Surname2. If the signal of the WiFi drops if you go out of range with your device, the other one is used by the device.

If you have more than 1 wifi, make them identical SSID's with identical credentials. Just make sure they each use their own channel (1, 6 and 11).
Have 2 Asus wifi's setup like this and get 100% coverage. Devices just lock onto the strongest.

Oh, that looks cool. Just have to make sure my router and the access point are on the same circuit.
